Michael Hsu Office of Architecture designs the interiors of a new restaurant located in Houston. It is inspired by the hearths found in Japanese farmhouses. To create the space, the studio used chunky timber batons to create a deep partition framing around the tiled reception area to create the look of a central hearth. This is the latest location for the Uchi brand as a sister concept after designing the Miami location earlier this year.
The studio speaks about the new space, stating that it is "Inspired by the central hearth of Japanese farmhouses, Uchiko presents a sense of intimacy with a central focal point, which feels both old and new. The rough material is manipulated in a refined manner to create an unexpected arrival experience."
