Textured Neutral Interiors

Toluca Lake House Layers Natural Materials Within a Restrained Palette

The Toluca Lake House by Lidan Sfadia employs a tightly edited palette of off-white walls, greige Italian limestone flooring, Calacatta marble and dark-stained European white oak to create depth through material variation rather than color. Mohair upholstery, Belgian linen, shearling, wool, woven rush, jute and suede introduce contrasting textures across the interiors, while honed limestone and polished marble interact differently with natural light. Brass fixtures, lighting and copper rain gutters add warm metallic accents, complemented by wrought-iron doors and furniture that provide visual definition throughout the home.

A closed-plan layout separates the family room, dining area and kitchen, with arched doorways linking each space while allowing individual material compositions to remain distinct. Dark oak cabinetry anchors the lighter finishes in the kitchen, where Calacatta marble counters contrast with woven rush barstools. Bedrooms continue the tactile approach with Belgian linen Roman shades, checkered jute rugs and suede upholstery, while the bathrooms combine marble surfaces with brass fittings.
