The Chapel by Vinklu adapts an overlooked, slender plot on Bazilescu Street in Bucharest into a small café that maximizes its verticality and presence. With architect Stefan Pavaluta leading the design, the building rises as a sharp triangular prism. Its facade is nearly fully glazed with triple-paned glass, allowing natural light to flood the interior by day while at night glowing like a beacon in the dense urban block.
There are light-toned woodthat softens the sharp geometry, creating warmth within its 43-square-metre footprint. Offsite fabrication and a lightweight steel frame reduced construction impact and waste. Outside, a mature tree was preserved, acting as a natural canopy that connects the café to its environment and provides shade. The Chapel shows how even the smallest urban interventions can reshape how people move through, see, and inhabit tight city spaces.
