Synlait Introduces the Eco-Friendly Synlait Swappa Bottles for Milk

A new line of stainless steel milk bottles has been introduced by Synlait in South Island supermarkets. Dubbed the Synlait Swappa Bottle, the 1.5-liter bottle of homogenised milk will be on sale for $15.29. This initial cost includes the price of the Synlait Swappa Bottle ($9.99) as well as the milk ($5.29).

The durability of the Synlait Swappa Bottle means that it can be used hundreds of times, and at its end-of-life, the stainless steel can be recycled. This concept is meant to garner the support of other companies, as it would allow infrastructure costs such as reverse vending machines in stores to be shared.

“New Zealanders have been telling us for years that they are deeply concerned about plastic waste, but in milk there haven’t been many options," said Synlait director of sustainability and brand, Hamish Reid. “Synlait Swappa Bottle is a step in the journey towards eliminating plastic waste.”
