Lakeland Dairies is introducing new clear caps for its milk products. The motivation behind the transition from the conventional red or blue colored carton tops is rooted in sustainability and the imperative to streamline recycling processes. The traditional colored milk caps present challenges in their recyclability for food-grade packaging due to the dyes used for their coloring.
Not only do clear caps facilitate a more seamless and efficient recycling process, but their transparency eliminates common issues associated with color contamination, particularly in the realm of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) recycling.
“Across all our 2-liter and 3-liter cartons produced for retailers as well as our iconic and market-leading Champion brand, we are playing a real leadership role in reducing unrecyclable plastic from the supply chain,” commented Tommy O’Donaghue, head of Consumer Foods with Lakeland Dairies.
