Wheelchair-Focused Transit Maps

This New York Subway Map Highlights Difficulties for the Disabled

This New York City subway map was put together by lawyer and subway enthusiast Matthew Ahn to highlight the difficulties of using the subway system for disabled people in New York City.

Ahn, who holds the subway challenge record for visiting every station on the map the fastest at 21 hours, 49 minutes and 35 seconds, shows through this map that people in wheelchairs only have access to less than 20 percent of stations. This makes it very difficult for wheelchair users in New York City to get around in ease.

This situation is quite incredible given that the Americans With Disabilities Act passed a good quarter of a century ago. Regardless, Ahn's map sheds whole new light on the difficulties of using transit in New York City if you're a wheelchair user.
