Solar Medical Vehicles

Stella Juva is a Solar-Powered Mobile Healthcare Vehicle

Stella Juva is a solar-powered medical vehicle developed by students from Eindhoven University of Technology through Solar Team Eindhoven. The prototype combines transportation with a self-sufficient healthcare workspace, using 542 integrated solar cells and a 50-kWh battery to power both the vehicle and onboard medical equipment. Under favorable conditions, it can travel up to 444 miles on paved roads and reaches a top speed of 74 mph. Stored battery power keeps medical systems operating after sunset or in locations without reliable access to electricity.

The interior functions as a compact mobile clinic equipped with a defibrillator, portable X-ray and ultrasound systems, blood-testing equipment and a vaccine refrigerator. The project builds on the team's earlier solar mobility concepts, including Stella Vita and Stella Terra, while shifting the focus toward healthcare delivery in remote regions.

Solar-powered Care
Self-sufficient medical vehicles create new possibilities for delivering diagnostics, vaccines and emergency treatment in regions where fuel supply and grid access are unreliable.
Mobile Micro-clinics
Compact clinic interiors integrated into specialized vehicles signal a shift toward decentralized healthcare infrastructure that can reach patients outside traditional facilities.
Energy-independent Diagnostics
Battery-backed medical equipment powered by onboard renewables expands the viability of imaging, testing and cold-chain storage in off-grid environments.

Industries Being Reshaped

Healthcare
Remote and underserved care models are being reshaped by transportable clinical platforms that combine mobility, power generation and essential medical services.
Automotive
Purpose-built solar vehicles highlight opportunities for manufacturers to develop mission-specific mobility systems beyond passenger transport and logistics.
Renewable Energy
Integrated solar and storage systems in critical-service vehicles demonstrate how clean energy can support resilient operations where conventional infrastructure is limited.
