Sugary Stained Glass Art

These Graphic Watercolors Are Created With Paint and Sugar

Created using a mixture of watercolors and sugar, this stained glass art is imaginative and visually striking. It is the work of talented artist Sipho Mabona who creates origami-themed patterns and cutouts on wood using a laser.

Once his desired design is ready, the artist accents it with poured hot sugar that is later painted using a watercolor medium. Titled 'In Search Of ...", this stained glass art series is uniquely crafted and proves that unexpected materials are sometimes the most creative.

These masterpieces were recently presented at Cape Town's GUILD Design Fair and has gained critical acclaim for its unique craftsmanship. Inspired by religious architecture, these sugar-made canvases are a contemporary translation of classic church windows that are made from glass and resin.
