Vibrantly Colorful Dynamic Artwork

Kayla Rumpp's Art is Seen as Both Painting and Sculptural

Artist Kayla Rumpp practices dynamic looks when it comes to her art, creating artwork that borders between painting and art sculptures. She uses unique source materials that highlight popsicle sticks as she was an elementary school teacher after earning her undergraduate degree. From that experience, she was inspired by her students' arts and crafts and used the wooden sticks to create bright art.

Rumpp talks about her process as an artist, stating “In my process, I have a lot of vibrant colors that might be included in each piece, but there are usually at least one or two main colors that I like to use as a jumping-off point. It’s often based on how I’m feeling that day: ‘Today feels like a green day,’ or ‘I haven’t made a blue painting in a really long time.’ After that, it becomes kind of a game, to figure out what’s the next color in this painting – what two colors look great next [...] Magical things can happen when you put different colors together."
