Spin Local is a new incentive program from bike-sharing startup Spin. The program was just rolled out in Seattle and is meant to encourage riders to visit local businesses. When users see a poster for Spin Local at a cash register they can scan the QR code on it to get the cost of their ride credited back to them.
In addition to giving out free rides some of the Spin Local partner businesses also give discounts. Spin is a young startup so partnering with local businesses in one of its first launch cities makes sense.
Bike-sharing is growing across the U.S. but still hasn't really caught on yet. A program like Spin Local could be easily replicated by other companies to increase ridership. It's easy to see businesses across the country getting involved as it's essentially a free bit of marketing.
