This open call by business improvement district Better Bankside challenges artists, designers and curators to creatively transform crosswalks located on London, England's Southwark Street.
The 'Colourful Crossings' project was created in collaboration with Future Streets Incubator and Avenue of Art, and was commissioned to both improve and challenge how everyday city infrastructure is perceived and interacted with by the public. Located in the London borough of Bankside, these creative SouthWark Street crosswalks include colorful pattern work, optical illusions and striking graphic designs.
Perhaps most engaging is an interactive piece by artist and designer Adam Frank. His piece for the 'Colourful Crossings' initiative is a simple spotlight illuminating the street, but with a clever interactive twist. Equipped with motion sensors, anytime anyone passing by enters the light, a clapping and celebrating audience recording starts to play.
