Sous vide is a cooking technique that is normally reserved for high-end restaurants, since most homeowners do not have the expertise nor the means to use this technique to cook their food. The Electrolux Athmos changes that and works to replicate this cooking technique at home.
Sous vide works by cooking food that has been vacuum-sealed in temperature-controlled water that remains at the same temperature for the duration of the cooking process. The Athmos device has two different functions -- it comes with a handheld vacuum that can be used to vacuum-seal the food and cook food using the sous vide technique.
Unlike most sous vide machines, this one's cooking chamber is plastic, which allows the chef to watch the cooking process. The kit appliance also comes with a recipe app.
