Amazon Sommelier is an on-demand sommelier service, available to Japanese Amazon users, that allows them to access on-demand sommeliers on the phone for tips on what kind of wine they should consider buying today.

The free service allows users to phone up Amazon, who will connect them with certified sommeliers. The service is only available between noon and 5 p.m. in Japan.

Wine is increasing in popularity in Japan, and is slowly but surely starting to rival traditional Japanese staple sake in terms of consumption. Given this interesting fact as well as the Japanese consumer market's love for unique and innovative high-tech services, it's certainly safe to say that the Amazon Sommelier service is a nifty offering that will be well received by Japanese Amazon users.
