The Sleepbus is an innovative bus that contains a number of sleeping pods that can be used to shelter homeless people or people down on their luck who don't have a safe place to sleep at night.
Each bus is equipped with 22 sleep pods, a pair of toilets, lockers for personal items as well as pet kennels. The inclusion of pet kennels is an innovative measure, because most homeless shelters don't allow people to bring in their pets. Because the homeless after often targets of abuse and harassment, the Sleepbus has been designed with a high-tech security system.
The Sleepbus was conceived by Australian national Simon Rowe, who experienced homeless living himself some decades ago. The innovation is not designed to replace regular homeless shelters, hostels or low-income dwellings but is designed to supplement them and fill a different need altogether.
