The Rebuilt Slack App Increases Performance
Daniel Johnson — July 26, 2019 — Tech
A new edition of the Slack desktop app was recently made available for Windows and macOS. The redesign will bring a number of different performance upgrades to the platform. According to the company, the new app will launch 33% faster than its predecessor. The new Slack desktop app will also require 50% less RAM than the previous edition.
In order to roll out the improvements to the messaging app, the code was made multi-workspace aware. This means that Slack will not make single copies for individual workspaces that use RAM for each instance. The new version of the app now reuses components with a more up to date codebase. Slack was working on the updated app for two years.
All of the editions to the platform are currently available and users are able to download the new desktop app on the Slack Website.
