Video games are more popular than ever, and many consumers have ditched traditional media options in favor of a video game system alone -- hence the need for Skype for Xbox One. The software is completely new and revamped in order to work smoothly with the Xbox One interface, but the Universal Windows Platform version of Skype (of which Skype for Xbox One is an adaptation) offers all sorts of features that make use of the specific capabilities on video game consoles.
According to Skype's press release, the new app "has been redesigned to put gamers first." It has an adjusted look and feel that makes it easier to jump out of gameplay and into a call (and vice versa) and it comes with a dark look that is easier on the eyes compared to Skype's standard white template.
