The Trollhus House is a contemporary ski lodge with a unique twist. Instead of sitting on the edge of a mountainside, this chalet is raised up among the surrounding treetops to provide a stunning view of the natural setting.
Designed by Mork Ulnes Architects, the Trollhus House is a contemporary ski lodge that sits on an elevated concrete foundation. The raised design is intended to protect the home from the more than 60 feet of snowfall that blankets the area each year, while also taking advantage of the stunning views that surround the chalet. To make the unusual home blend in with the environment, the architects covered the exterior with a tar-treated wood that gives the home a shadowy appearance. This serves as a striking contrast to the home's light fir interior, which is bathed in the natural light that shines through the treetops.
