HDT Singapore Taxi's Entire Fleet Runs on Electricity Instead of Gas

With services like Uber and Lyft making taxis feel increasingly outdated, the Singapore taxi company Hold Dreams Together, or HDT, is hoping to modernize the taxi business by introducing an entirely electric fleet. HDT Singapore Taxi will become the sixth taxi fleet in the small Southeast Asian country, and its 100 taxis will not use any gasoline whatsoever.

To be sure, the taxis in HDT Singapore Taxi's fleet are only a tiny percentage of the 28,000 total vehicles in operation on the island. Nonetheless, Singapore has shown a concerted commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions over the past half-decade, with nearly $15 million being dedicated to EV research in 2009 and several pilot projects having been run in the intermittent years.
