In an unprecedented deal, social media app Snapchat reached an agreement with American broadcaster NBC to show the Olympics. Highlights of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games taking place this August will be showcased on the smartphone app, marking the first time in history that the United States will be sharing footage of the renowned sporting event.
Snapchat Inc. will be establishing a dedicated channel to show the Olympics in Rio De Janeiro. While Snapchat creates live stories, media platform BuzzFeed will also be privy to footage and will curate short video clips and behind the scenes content for their Snapchat Discover channel.
This integration continues to show the importance of social media in news consumption.
