Offering an alternative perspective to conventional straight on ship photography is artist Dirk Broemmel that shares a series entitled Ships from Above containing images of various boats from an aerial viewpoint. The illustrationts are incredibly detailed and feature bold pastel-colored backgrounds that heighten the details of the ship's interiors.
Often boats and ships are photographed from dead-on, highlight the sheer magnitude of the vessel rather than what is going on inside. The Ship from Above images capture boats from new perspectives while highlighting the micro-chasm that goes on within them. For example, one image showcases a cruise ship and dozens of passengers moving about. Because of the angle of the shot, the illustration focuses more on the purpose of the ship than the ship itself.
