Seventy One Gin Was Influenced by Perfume-Making Techniques

Inspired by the art of creating perfumes, London-based fashion photographer Mert Alas created Seventy One gin. The product was created to bring an appreciation of aesthetics to spirits and the botanicals used to create the product are said to be assembled like a perfume.

Created in collaboration with master distiller Steve Wilson, the former president of Diageo Reserve, Seventy One features botanicals like juniper, angelica, lemon, damask rose, grapefruit and cinchona. These botanical distillates are individually distilled with techniques like old infusion, slow infusion, vacuum and copper pot distillation to produce different flavor results. After being matured in three types of oak for 71 days, a distillate of the night-flowering cactus Selenicereus grandiflorus is added to finish off the unique blend.
