A part of an old Fenix warehouse on Rotterdam's waterfront, this sculptural spiral staircase definitely captivates the attention of passers-by due to its magnanimous presence. Described as a "theatrical" addition to the structure, the design has multiple functionalities. For one, it definitely produces an architectural embellishment to the site. Secondly, it gives individuals access to panoramic views as it boasts a 360-degree observation deck.
Designed by MAD, the sculptural spiral staircase is yet to be realized in physicality. The fluidly polished silhouette effortlessly juxtaposes the historic appearance of the Fenix warehouse. The shiny new addition will surely engage public traffic in the area.
The development was commissioned by the Droom en Daad Foundation which made a pledge to "contribute to a beautiful and attractive Rotterdam."
