Local design firm Puerto & Sánchez Arquitectos has completed the design of the Farrapona Geological Viewpoint. It is a looped structure that overlooks a mountain pass in the northern part of Spain. It is made from weathered steel and the main focus was to create a 'ribbon-like' foundation which has a surround view of the spot.
Puerto & Sánchez Arquitectos' co-founder Jose Ramon Puerto speaks about the design concept, "The goal was to create a circular viewpoint, allowing anyone to enter, contemplate the exceptional 360-degree landscape, and exit again." The deck is constructed from sheet metal and defined by teardrop-shaped cutouts so it does not collect water. Puerto adds, "When the wind blows, the viewpoint 'sings', emitting a musical sound that produces an unintended but suggestive effect."
