Periscope has created a clever addition to its app that promotes screenshot-sharing for users to spread what they're watching more efficiently. By adapting itself to make screen-shotting a more social experience, the app simultaneously promotes its very use further.
The design lets the person streaming know that an image has been captured, but more importantly provides the user with context to share with their friends more rapidly -- getting straight to the point with a picture of the video, instead of an explanation or link that needs to be clicked. This will result in greater viewership, broadcasting users' streams more efficiently. It is essentially Periscope's version of Twitter's "retweet" -- facilitating faster spreading of a brand, personal brand or celebrity on social media.
The screenshot-sharing adapted version will ensure that Periscope leads the way as celebrities' and brands' number one video streaming app, since it effectively promotes and broadcasts their streams.
