Absurd Automobile Photography

Scott London Photographed the 'Mutant Vehicles' of Burning Man

Photographer Scott London has been a long-time attendee at Burning Man, the annual gathering in the middle of the Nevada desert. Burning Man is known for its elaborate and impressive art pieces put together on site by other burners, as attendees are known, and London captured some of these artworks at Burning Man 2016 -- in particular, the crazy cars.

Scott London's series could hardly be called car photography, as the vehicles are more sculptures than automobiles. In fact, London himself refers to the cars as 'mutant vehicles,' and for good reason.

The mutant vehicles in the series are broad-spanning. One, the 'Maria Del Camino,' looks like an El Camino that is halfway to becoming a Transformer. Others abandoned resembling cars altogether, taking the shape of a giant boombox, an angler fish, and a pirate ship.
