Vegan Tofu Pepperoni

Minimalist Baker Constructs a Plant-Based Sausage Alternative Using Soybean

Blogger chef Minimalist Baker shares a healthy meat-free sausage alternative for consumers looking to enjoy pepperoni without digesting animal by products. The recipe is made using flattened tofu seasoned with both savory and sweet spices to recreate the texture, consistency and taste of real pepperoni sausage.

The vegan pepperoni is a pretty close alternative to the real meat version that relies on using the same spices and seasonings to achieve the flavor found in the beef product. The dish is made using extra firm tofu which acts as the protein-rich meat replacement that is topped with fennel seeds, paprika, garlic and chilli flakes. The tofu is rolled out and baked while the paprika gives the dish the iconic red coloring.

Liquid smoke can be added as well to render the tofu with a realistic aroma.
