David Ma recently carried out a restaurant plating campaign, which involved changing how different eateries display their signature dishes. Although we don't always think about it, the way food is presented can change the way we feel about it. This campaign seeks to demonstrate how something as simple as plating impacts our perception of food.
Ma himself is a self-proclaimed food stylist, who is determined to understand how restaurant plating can impact the quality of the food being served. His latest campaign was called '#FoodFreestyling' and it involved visiting 12 New York City restaurants with the sole purpose of re-plating their signature dish. At each restaurant, Ma asked for an extra plate and then began rearranging the dish based only on the ingredients he was served. He then posted the before and after images to his Instagram page.
With so many people taking pictures of their food these days, Ma's work could challenge restaurants to think about how to make their dishes appear more photogenic.
