In honor of National Indigenous Peoples Day, CIBC is celebrating the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples with a new commitment to further reconciliation efforts. The banking brand announced it has closed 18 banking centers near Indigenous communities to honor the day and employees are encouraged to participate safely in local events to learn more about how they can promote reconciliation.
"Indigenous peoples in Canada continue to experience systemic racism and intergenerational trauma. We are committed to creating an environment that fosters true reconciliation and economic sustainability for Indigenous communities," said Jaimie Lickers, Vice President of Indigenous Markets, CIBC. "We remain dedicated to supporting the next generation of Indigenous leaders and changemakers through investments and active engagement in communities across Canada."
In addition, CBC has donated more than $1.8M annually to fund organizations that support Indigenous communities. These include scholarships and school support.
