Revitalized Wellness Centers

CIB and RBC Invest in the Matawa Training and Wellness Centre

The collaboration between the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB), Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), and Matawa First Nations Management focuses on the revitalization of the Matawa Training and Wellness Centre in order to address ritical community needs while advancing sustainability. The $20 million investment will revitalize the facility in Thunder Bay, Ontario, transforming it into a central hub for delivering essential services, including healthcare, education, and social programming, to over 10,000 First Nations members.

Key features of the project include energy-efficient upgrades, expected to reduce energy consumption by 70%, and the integration of services under one roof to streamline accessibility. The Matawa Training and Wellness Centre is also projected to employ up to 300 individuals by 2026, contributing to local economic development. Additionally, with a focus on cultural sensitivity, the facility aims to provide holistic support and foster resilience within the Matawa First Nations communities.
