The Qatar National Convention Center would be impressive enough without going for gold—LEED Gold, that is. Seeking to be the first of its kind in the area, it will feature 3,700 square meters of solar panels amongst other resource-saving features.
Designed by Yamasaki Architects, the Qatar National Convention Center is modeled after the Sidra Tree. To open in 2011, even if it doesn't succeed in obtaining a LEED Gold rating, which seems pretty impossible, it's stunning enough to make up for it.
