Lightweight PAS Units

Yamaha Debuted the 'PW-XM' as its Lightest and Most Compact Bike Drive Unit

The 'PW-XM' is Yamaha’s lightest and flagship e-bike drive unit, designed for high-end eMTB applications. It features a magnesium housing that reduces its weight to just 2.6 kg and improves its heat dissipation. The 250-W motor can produce up to 85 Nm of torque and has the highest torque-to-weight ratio in Yamaha’s e-bike range. The PW-XM also offers an auto assist mode that automatically adjusts the power output according to the riding conditions and Zero Cadence Technology that provides instant torque for a responsive ride.

The PW-XM e-bike drive unit was launched in June 2023 to mark the 30th anniversary of Yamaha’s first electrically power-assisted bicycle. It is compatible with any e-bike chassis that uses Yamaha’s PW-X3 and PWseries S2 drives, giving manufacturers more options. The pricing and availability of the PW-XM are not yet revealed, but it is expected to be available soon for premium eMTB models.
