Starting this month and extending into 2017, public transit buses in Halifax will be outfitted with auditory announcement systems that will aid those with visual impairments. The new feature for Halifax Transit buses will announce to riders the bus route before the rider gets on as well as announcing the various stops throughout the journey.
The new public transit bus announcements will help to make the accessibility of the city much more diverse. What's more, the announcements are ideal for those with visual impairments, but also help to make the public transit system more understandable for visitors who might not be familiar with it. The new announcements on the buses come as the first step of several that are being taken in Halifax to make the city more accessible for all residents and visitors.
