Vicinity Motor Corp. Deploys Its Electric Bus in Michigan

Vicinity Motor Corp. has announced the inaugural deployment of its automated transit bus at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. This move was made possible through a partnership with ADASTEC. Scheduled to commence on August 14, 2024, this initiative marks the first public use of Vicinity’s autonomous bus technology.

Vicinity Motor's automated transit bus is equipped with ADASTEC's SAE Level-4 automated driving software. It will operate along a 4.1-mile route as it aims to enhance the visitor experience while showcasing the capabilities of automated transit in a natural setting.

The initiative reflects ongoing trends toward integrating smart technologies in everyday travel. The service will be free for holders of National Park Service passes and is expected to offer insights into the effectiveness of automated vehicles in reducing traffic congestion and improving safety.
