Los Angeles-based painter Danny Galieote created this stunning collection of vintage paintings that depict the daily lives of fierce women in the 1930s and 40s. All the images feature a strong and independent woman.
Women during this time were discouraged from being independent, which is what makes the painting of a woman showing off her brass knuckles so inspiring. While these images raise awareness of the progress in gender equality, it also exposes room for further advancement in both gender equality and independence.
The images follow no particular theme but the use of vintage-styled colors, outfits and accessories creates a cohesive rhythm throughout the series. Some images feature women with weapons such as guns. Other images show a woman holding a frying pan behind her back while a man lays on the ground. These vintage paintings allow the audience to create their own stories behind each stunning painting.
