Sexuality-Exploring Artful Exhibitions

Faye Toogood Explores Sensuality with the Rude Arts Club

Faye Toogood presents new designs during Milan Design Week -- all of which explore the concept of sexuality and the body as a whole. She presents lamps and daybeds that look like mattresses stacked on top of one another along with rugs that are reminiscent of body parts. The Rude rugs are made concerning impromptu paintings by Toogood after visiting an exhibition that showcased works by Francis Bacon, who highlighted the human body. All of the rugs are made using different yarns and techniques to capture the brush strokes.

Toogood speaks about the design project to Dezeen, stating "This is my take on embracing all that comes with being a woman. I'm a couple of years off being 50 and I spent the last 20-30 years in design not really drawing attention to being female. I'm a second-wave feminist. We were much more like: being female is not part of the conversation. We don't want to talk about it. We're just designers. It got me thinking about the male interpretation of sexuality and the body and I thought, I'll have a go at doing that myself."
