Artistic Martian Colonization Experiences

'Project Eagle' Normalizes the Idea of Colonizing Mars

Blackbird Interactive recently released 'Project Eagle,' an interactive art demonstration of a human colony established on Mars. Developed as a means of capturing "public imagination" and building "support for the exploration of space,” the interactive experience is currently free so that as many people as possible can experience and learn about Martian colonization. The entire experience presents a gorgeous depiction of Martian colonies and manages to combine art and science.

While developing 'Project Eagle,' Blackbird Interactive studied the work of the original moon exploration advocates, including Chesley Bonestell and Wernher von Braun. The Martian environment was also compiled from real-world information, including data from the HiRise camera aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, and expertise from NASA scientists about material constraints and various possibilities for human habitations on the red planet.
