The Filter Presso Secures V60 Paper Filters Before Brewing

The Filter Presso by SAQ Design is a precision metal tool made for Hario V60 pour-over brewing. The accessory is designed to press a paper filter against the dripper walls before coffee grounds are added. Its fanlike structure uses angled metal fins set at 60 degrees to match the V60’s cone geometry. This helps seal the filter against the dripper and reduce water bypass, which can happen when the paper lifts away from the walls during brewing.

The tool features a tapered handle and spaced fins that allow water to continue moving freely once brewing begins. SAQ Design developed the piece specifically for the V60 rather than adapting it for multiple dripper types. The design went through several 3D-printed iterations, including spiral, coil, disc, and ribbed forms, before reaching the final metal fin arrangement.

Precision Brewing Accessories
Narrowly engineered tools that optimize extraction variables present opportunities for novel peripherals that materially change flavor consistency and user experience.
Geometry-matched Components
Components tailored to specific form factors hint at a shift toward bespoke interfaces between consumables and devices that minimize performance loss from mismatches.
Iterative 3d-prototyping for Niche Tools
Rapidly cycling through additive prototypes enables low-volume product refinement that can unlock highly optimized niche hardware without large tooling investments.

Who This Affects Most

Specialty Coffee Equipment
Designs that address micro-leakage and flow control could redefine premium brewing hardware by focusing on precision interfaces rather than solely on aesthetics.
Metal Additive Manufacturing
Small-batch metal parts produced from finalized 3D-printed iterations indicate potential for scalable production of high-precision accessories previously limited by traditional machining.
Consumer Kitchen Tools
Specialized sealing and alignment tools suggest opportunities for differentiated utensils that improve everyday process reliability in home kitchens.
