'3BOX' is a new project that involves installing prefab structures in historical Parisian neighborhoods. Like many other urban centers, Paris suffers from a lack of affordable real estate. Since many people oppose the idea of destroying the city's existing homes and building up, this project provides a unique alternative.
3BOX seeks to preserve the existing character of Paris' many historical buildings by merely adding on to them. With the help of Stéphane Malka Architecture, several prefabricated structures have been designed that could easily be fixed onto the exterior of existing buildings. The dwellings would be bolted in place and then reinforced with steel supports to blend into the original structure.
With plans for the installation of more then 70,000 new dwellings, such structures could help to combat the city's growing demand for affordable housing.
