Factory-Converted Revived Spaces

PAO Takes on the Porcelain Factory Plug-in Revival Project

Chinese design studio People's Architecture Office has taken on the Porcelain Factory Plug-in Revival project. The team converted an old porcelain factory in Jingdezhen into functioning workshops and a gallery defined by a bright and colorful steel and glass extension structure. The design team opens up the previously private location to expand the area for tourists and locals.

The principal at PAO, James Shen speaks to Dezeen about the design notion of the project, sharing "By using plug-in architecture, the design addresses contemporary needs within a heritage context, adding functional spaces that support modern artistic practices and community interaction. This approach enables modern interventions to coexist with traditional elements, creating a space that harmonies old and new as a form of urban regeneration."
