People's Architecture Office, otherwise known as PAO has designed the Curly Cube. This is a modular art installation developed to transform an ordinary urban space into an area of light, shade, and artful interaction. Nestled in Shanghai, it is a captivating piece of art. When looking at the Curly Cube, it appears as a juxtaposing look -- soft but structured, fluid yet angular.
It is made with inspiration drawn from the Gyroid minimal surface. The complex is brought to life with the curvilinear tensile membranes, which were conceived by Serge Ferrari. The structure stretches over the square frames, which are lightweight and open. This is joined by a softness that the light reflects off of the fabric materials and membranes.
