Poke restaurants are exponentially gaining popularity, especially in the state of California. The tropical dish is characteristic of Hawaiian cuisine and is essentially a bowl of raw fish salad. Recently, an establishment called LA Poke moved to Berlin to introduce the health-focused food to Europe.
Ester Bruzkus Architekten is given the task to create a breezy and colorful interior that will communicate an uplifting aesthetic to visitors. The studio focuses on producing an artistic environment that will resemble “a [relaxed] day at a California pool.” In the development of the poke restaurant’s interior, the architects draw inspiration from a painting by pop artist David Hockney. In particular, Ester Bruzkus Architekten takes cues from the laid-back dynamic of ‘A Bigger Splash’—an artwork completed in 1967.
