Sculptural Coastal Residences

Perla Residence by Stipfold Shapes a Minimalist Villa in Marbella

Perla Residence is a private home in Marbella, Spain, designed by architecture studio Stipfold as a sculptural response to its coastal setting. The villa is defined by a continuous white concrete shell that folds walls and roof into a single curving form, replacing conventional rectilinear volumes. Large openings and sliding glass panels connect the interior to surrounding terraces, while deep overhangs provide shade and passive climate control suited to the Mediterranean environment.

The layout centers on a double-height living space that emphasizes volume beneath the curved envelope. Materials are kept restrained, with smooth white surfaces contrasted by glazing and stone flooring. Outdoor areas extend the interior through covered patios and an infinity pool positioned to align with sea views rather than the street. The structure functions simultaneously as enclosure, shading device, and visual identity.

Sculptural Coastal Residences
Curving monolithic envelopes prioritize form as both identity and function, enabling novel approaches to façade fabrication and site-specific expression.
Integrated Envelope-structure Systems
Merging roof and walls into a single folded shell blurs conventional structural boundaries and opens space for integrated material systems that combine enclosure, shading and load-bearing roles.
Passive Climate-responsive Design
Deep overhangs, operable glazing and orientation-driven layouts emphasize passive thermal control strategies tailored to Mediterranean microclimates and reduce reliance on mechanical systems.
