Bruichladdich Distillery Expands the Octomore Series
Bruichladdich Distillery has released the sixteenth installment of its Octomore series, a line of single malt Scotch whiskies renowned for their exceptionally high phenol content, measured in Parts Per Million (PPM).
The Octomore series comprises three distinct expressions, each aged for five years and bottled at cask strength. These spirits, however, stand out for their barley provenance and cask maturation regimens. The 16.1 expression serves as a foundational reference. It is made from mainland Scottish barley and matured in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels. The 16.2 utilizes the same distillate but undergoes a more complex maturation in a combination of Oloroso, Bordeaux, Madeira, and Moscatel casks. The pinnacle of the Octomore series — the 16.3 — s produced entirely from barley grown on the distillery's own Octomore Farm on Islay and is matured in a trio of bourbon, Sauternes, and Pedro Ximénez casks. The distillery emphasizes that all expressions are non-chill-filtered, free from artificial coloring, and bottled using local spring water.
