NYSAT stands for the New York Street Advertising Takeover, a group that has previously launched guerilla projects to whitewash New York City billboards. The group faced all kinds of legal trouble after painting over advertising billboards. Nine individuals involved with the group spent time in jail, and NYSAT was overwhelmed with lawsuits. Now the lawsuits have all been dropped, and the NYSAT website has been able to launch.
The NYSAT website features some of the group’s work, painting over billboards and adding their own art. The street art has been widely debated—obviously companies aren’t too happy to have their work painted over. The NYSAT website will add to the debate.
