Ånderkleiva Headquarters Fuses Coastal & Workspace Design

The Ånderkleiva headquarters by Snøhetta integrates coastal terrain and workspace design in a facility for the fishing and fish-farming company Magne Arvesen & Sønner on Andørja, Norway. Built into a steep north-facing site, the structure extends over the quay and is anchored by a concrete base clad in weathering steel. The ocean-facing façade combines black glass with stainless-steel fins to mirror shifting skies and water, allowing the building to respond visually to its surroundings.

Inside, the program arranges offices, production areas, and social spaces along a linear plan so that most rooms open to expansive sea views. Material choices reinforce maritime identity, with recycled fishing-net carpets, raw concrete stair cores, and durable fiber cement panels. The roofline follows the natural terrain, while the waterside gallery links daily activity with the dock and nearby mountains. By merging function and environment, the headquarters reflects both industry and landscape in a single architectural gesture.
