This Machine Recreates Instagram Photos Using Seven Miles of Thread

The clothing store Forever 21 and 'Breakfast' have launched a real-time billboard that recreates Instagram photos using moving thread. The giant machine has the ability to design and project any image from an Instagram account onto its surface through the use of moving threads.

The machine is made of cloth, wood and aluminum and it is digitally synced to a computer-based photo stream. The entire machine uses just under seven miles of fabric to project real images. This process is extremely intricate and uses many wooden spools to feature rainbow ribbons that spin to change among 36 colors according to computerized directions.

The idea is to connect to Millennial consumers using the social media platform of Instagram. This machine has the ability to transform any Instagram photo from selfies to scenery into textile-based works of art.
