A Redmond, Washington-based company by the name of Planetary Resources has successfully launched an asteroid-mining satellite that is designed to demonstrate and test the latest and greatest technologies that could rule the roost in the asteroid mining industry.

The satellite, which lifted off from the Indian Space Research Organization facility in southern India, features a battery of energy generation, instrumentation and communications technology.
