Fieldwork's Building Facade is Both Aesthetically Driven and Functional

Local architectural practice Fieldwork installs a mesh facade on an apartment block in Melbourne. The design operates on multiple accounts, providing specific functions to those who live there, as well as offering an interesting aesthetic presence in the Fitzroy neighborhood.
Fieldwork created the mesh facade from metal and painted it white. This allows for the embellishment to appear lightweight, minimalist and even "breathable." At night, the lights in the units are diffused, offering a welcoming glow. In addition to this, the feature has a privacy-oriented application and is quite flexible as it boasts " integrated operable shutters." Moreover, the presence of the mesh facade allows for the building to have improved thermal performance as it "creates shade, [...] reduces heat on glazed surfaces" [and] diffuses sunlight."
