Contemporary Material Exhibition Spaces

destilat Designs the TDW material_lab in Munich

The TDW material_lab in Munich, designed by destilat Design Studio, presents an innovative approach to material exhibition spaces that transcends conventional showroom concepts. This 100-square-meter interior transforms material presentation into an immersive, curated experience through thoughtful spatial manipulation and minimalist aesthetics. The designers rejected typical crowded product displays in favor of a carefully edited selection of surfaces that hint at the company's broader material capabilities while maintaining visual clarity.

A striking natural stone counter with a brushed metal top serves as the spatial anchor in the material exhibition space. This feature simultaneously divides functional zones and conceals service areas. The studio's creative intervention of mirrored ceiling cut-outs, on the other hand, creates the illusion of skylights, which introduces dramatic lighting effects that enhance the theatrical quality of the material presentations. Walls and floors finished with manual spatula techniques provide a textured yet neutral backdrop that emphasizes craftsmanship.
