Malmo Upcycling Service's 'Odds & Ends' Upcycles Waste from Different Industries
As part of Iceland's DesignMarch festival, Malmo Upcycling Service has created a new series of home decor pieces that make statements about waste in modern society. The project, entitled 'Odds & Ends', features elegant household objects infused with waste materials from six different industries.
There are 11 pieces in Odds & Ends, including small pieces like a decorative mirror or a vase and larger home accessories like a coffee table. Each of these objects contains a material from a large industry in Sweden (where Malmo Upcycling Service is of course based), sourcing the products from brick, glass, acrylic, stone, and sheet metal manufacturers.
The project, and indeed the design studio as a whole, has a mission of showing consumers the potential inherent in things that might otherwise be left as waste.
